As the voice of the automotive aftermarket industry in BC, our membership expect the ARA to advocate with government on their behalf. Specifically, the ARA will participate in meetings with elected and staff members of government, as well as attend events organized by elected officials. Examples of such advocacy work include meetings with: ¿ The Minister of Transportation & Infrastructure and Minister Responsible for ICBC to express concerns over relations with ICBC; to address issues of compensation paid by ICBC to industry; to discuss the transfer of training responsibilities from ICBC to industry; to ensure the realization of previous commitments from government to provide a training facility and resources to support automotive careers (His Chief of Staff is often communicated with on these subjects also) ¿ The Minister of JTST to discuss challenges and solutions to attract and retain labour in the sector; to ensure automotive careers are recognized in the BC Jobs Plan; to secure funding for LKMPP projects to support labour market information in the automotive sector; to ensure automotive careers are represented in the BC Government¿s recognized Top 100 careers. ¿ The Finance Minister to discuss issues of industry compensation from ICBC; ¿ The Solicitor General to discuss changes to the Motor Dealer Act and regulations, and policies and practices within government that impact the automotive sector; ¿ The Minister of Environment to discuss environmental issues relating to vehicle and parts recovery and dismantling; ¿ All elected Caucus Members are invited to an annual lunch hosted by the ARA for networking between Caucus and the ARA Board of Directors and senior staff. ¿ Government is always asked to attend the ARA Annual Meeting each year. We hope to attract one of the identified Ministers to this year¿s AGM in September. ¿ Attend the Premier¿s annual fundraising dinner. - Serve on the Automotive Sector Advisory Group under the Industry Training Authority (ITA); advocate for improvements in BC apprenticeship training and trade certification. - The ARA also attends various receptions and events organized by the government for which the cost of admission supports government fundraising. These events are not yet identified by government and are communicated to us as they are organized.
