The Doctors of BC is currently working on/published eight policy papers/statements with an intent of public release and promotion to the government: 1. Family Caregivers; In October 2016 Doctors of BC released the policy paper "Circle of Care: Supporting Family Caregivers in BC". The paper contains recommendations aimed at increasing supports for family caregivers. 2. Preventing Violence in Healthcare; "Policy statement released in April 2016. Calls on government to ensure meaningful physician input into violence prevention activities and makes recommendations on ways to improve safety for physicians. 3. Improving BC's Health Care Performance; Policy paper released January 2017. Contains recommendations to government aimed at better support and coordination of health system and quality improvement efforts in BC 4. Professional Autonomy; Policy statement released January 2017 that sets out what Doctors of BC means by professional autonomy. 5. Psychological Safety in Health Care Teams; Policy statement makes recommendations and commitments in four areas that work toward implementing policies and practices that promote psychological safety for physicians and other heath care providers; 6. Chronic Pain; Policy statement released June 2017 recommending the Ministry of Health develop a Provincial Chronic Pain Strategy that supports access to multidisciplinary Chronic Pain services. 7. Health Information Management and Information Technology Principles; Updated policy released May 2017 on Health IMIT Principles. The updated statement advocates for five principles that must be included in any Health IM/IT system introduced in BC 8. Physician Disaster Preparedness; Currently developing a policy paper addressing the role of physicians in disaster emergency planning.
