Request for legislative change to revert to the policy that existed prior to 2002 which allowed single parents to continue on social assistance while attending secondary and post secondary education programs. Intended outcome: support for these parents to qualify for jobs that will allow them to move away from social assistance. Request for government to provide adequate funding to ensure that BC's children have their nutritional, nealth and dental needs met to reverse the trend and impact of child poverty in BC and its effects on learning. Request for investigation of the specific health and safety risks of long-term exposure to jet fuel and other oil products, including diluted bitumen and the chemicals used to transport it, at schools on or near the present and proposed oil pipelines and oil tank farms. Intended outcome: preparation of a health and safety plan for all affected schools in BC to respond to any oil spills or exposure to toxic chemicals used in pipelines and tank farms including evacuation training for staff. In the addition the development of long-term gas leak monitoring along all oil pipilines, refineries and tank farms near or adjacent to schools and school yards in BC.
