Request for a meeting with Honourable Mike Bernier, Minister of Education to discuss the serious data breach that was announced by government on September 22, 2015. Request that this meeting include a discussion of working with the BC Teachers' Federation to develop guidelines that address privacy, scope, purpose, access, safeguards, functionality and costs of data collection.

Request for changes in the processes of the BC Teachers' Council elections. Changes to include: Accepting electronic files (e.g., PDFs) as nomination packages to ensure enough time for potential candidates to gather the necessary signatures and organize other required documentation. Ensure that the ballot packages contain all the information and documentation needed for certificate holders to cast their ballots. Consideration be given to expanding or changing the deadlines for ballots to be received to ensure all those eligible to vote are given adequate time to do so.

Call to government to acknowledge and support the 94 Calls to Action released June 3, 2015 in the Final Report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Canada. In particular the sections of the report pertaining to Education and Education for Reconciliation. Specifically, mandatory educational requirements for all students, from Kindergarten to Grade 12 through the development and implementation of age-appropriate curriculum in BC schools on the legacy of Indian Residential Schools, treaties and Aboriginal peoples' historical and contemporary contributions to Canada.

Request for government to commence a program to install Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) in all schools in British Columbia to ensure a more immediate response to situations of cardiac arrest and thus ensuring a safer environment for students, staff and visitors in BC schools.

Request for enactment of legislation regarding conflict of interest regulations for school districts by: Requiring school secretary treasurers, superintendents and deputy superintendents, on an annual basis in a public report made to school boards, to making the following disclosures on: 1. affiliations with other education-related organizations 2. affiliations with any corporations or business that do business with or intend to do business with a BC school district 3. Any and all income, honorariums, or payment for service 4. Any in-kind services or gifts from other organizations or corporations 5. Participation in or attendance at activities organized by corporations. In order to ensure that there is no conflict of interest about any groups who may pursue their interest through influencing school district administrators.

Call to withdraw Bill 11, Education Statutes Amendment Act, 2015. Call to engage in discussion with the BC Teachers' Federation and other stakeholders on issues raised in Bill 11 that undermines the authority of school trustees and their ability to make decisions that reflect the needs of their community; challenges the professionalism of teachers by making their professional development subject to arbitrary direction; allows for collection and use of student data without sufficient privacy protections; centralizes control in the role of the Minister of Education and unnecessarily increases government bureaucracy.

Request for government to move forward with recommendations contained in the First Call: BC Child and Youth Advocacy Coalition's Make BC's Young Children and Families a Priority: A Call to Action. This would include development and implementation of public policies as follows: substantial government investment to advance healthy child development to address socioeconomic inequalities; $10 per day childcare program; accessible high quality, locally-based support services for parents and children; guaranteed adequate income for families.

Request that WorkSafeBC revise its policies and/or practices regarding when workers' compensation coverage is provided to teachers participating in employer-sanctioned extra-curricular activities. Specifically policy related to general entitlement factors and how they are applied when determining whether a teachers' exercise or sports-related injury arises out of and in the course of their employment.
