The Government of B.C. procures a significant amount of construction and allied services as it delivers B.C.'s infrastructure. As an advocate for fair, open and transparent procurement practices in both the public and private sectors, VRCA's work necessitates fostering a collaborative and mutually beneficial relationship with the provincial government to ensure that public sector procurement demonstrates best practice.

The Government of B.C. intends to build key public infrastructure projects using its Community Benefits Agreement within which is embedded a Project Labour Agreement. VRCA is working to understand the extent to which the Community Benefits Agreement will be applied, how its application impacts project risk and the cost of construction and, ultimately, B.C.'s taxpayers.

The Government of B.C. intends to build key public infrastructure projects using its Community Benefits Agreement within which is embedded a Project Labour Agreement. VRCA is working on behalf of its members to understand how the Project Labour Agreement will roll out operationally, and how it will impact both contractors and workers, so that those parties can take steps to mitigate the risks associated with the application of the Project Labour Agreement. Also, the Government of B.C. is undertaking a formal review of B.C.'s Workers' Compensation system (WorkSafeBC) and has appointed retired labour lawyer, Ms. Janet Patterson, to conduct the review. VRCA is working on behalf of its members to ensure the Terms of Reference for the review are specifically defined and to provide feedback to Ms. Patterson over the course of the review as appropriate.

The Government of B.C. has introduced numerous taxes and fees in its 2018 and 2019 budgets, the collective result of which is becoming increasingly onerous on the small- and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) that make up the majority of B.C.'s business community and the majority of VRCA¿s membership. VRCA will work to ensure that the government understands the impact of its taxation policies not only on SMEs but on competition and investor confidence in B.C.
