Election questions shared as part of the Surrey Board of Trade’s Provincial All Candidates Dialogue: Housing Affordability: Everyone wants to find affordable housing. The problem is, there is a lack of new housing supply, which could help address high prices and rent. The recent Development Approval Process Review report prepared by the BC government identified ways for the Province and local governments to streamline the approval of new housing supply. Fraser Valley REALTORS® would like to know, would you commit to fast tracking development processes to increase the supply of housing to meet the needs in your community? Strata Insurance: Strata insurance premiums have gone through the roof – creating a big problem for a lot of people, without an easy fix. Fraser Valley REALTORS® believe the BC government needs to provide mandatory training to strata council members so they are equipped to make decisions for their community. Would you be in support of this recommendation? Energy Retrofits: Environmental concerns resulting from climate change and manmade pollution need to be addressed even though we are in a global pandemic. Many homeowners are spending money on renovations, but they’re not thinking about energy efficiency. Fraser Valley REALTORS® would like to know, would you implement more incentives to encourage people to perform energy efficient retrofits?
