We wrote a letter on behalf of the BCIT Rivers Institute asking that the Minister designate the Fraser River from Hope to below Chilliwack as a Provincial Wildlife Management Area, after first inviting First Nations to consider partnering in such an action. As noted in the letter, the letter was supported by the 28-member organizations in Fish, Wildlife and Habitat Coalition. Those organizations are all listed on p. 2 of the letter.
The intended outcome is for the Minister to take steps under s. 4(2) of the Wildlife Act to establish a Heart of the Fraser Wildlife Management Area, after first inviting First Nations to consider partnering in such an initiative that could be – or evolve into -- an Indigenous Protected and Conserved Area.
