Specific Topics of Lobbying Communications Intended Outcomes Associated Subject Matters
Topic: Accountable Municipal Government in Bc Outcome: Returning the Office of the Municipal Auditor to the Minister of Municipal Affairs to ensure BC municipalities have access to the assistance required through major financial decisions of great impact to their local constituents. Subject Matter: The BC Government formerly incorporated a municipal auditor to keep watch over municipal spending and major infrastructure processes. However, this was lobbied away in recent years and we have seen municipal spending come under greater question. Therefore, we are proposing a more collaborative approach in returning a similar office to the Minister of Municipal Affairs portfolio.

Topic: Enhanced Connectivity in Northern/Central BC Outcome: We would like to see Gov’t invest COVID19 economic development funding to increased connectivity and cost parity in rural and remote BC Subject Matter: COVID19 and increased ‘work from home’ formats have exposed a) the lack of connectivity outside the Lower Mainland and b) the severity of cost increases to rural and remote BC for access

Outcome: To see unused and under-utilized government spaces and facilities converted to treatment facilities Subject Matter: The overdose crisis in BC continues and our communities are suffering as a result. There are not enough treatment spaces available and Crown continues to ignore prolific offenders.

Topic: Stop unfair tax systems that burden small and medium business. Outcome: Remove the Employers Health Tax (EHT) Subject Matter: In switching to the EHT, including subsequent revisions, we have seen businesses having to layoff team members due to employment thresholds, which then lessens the Provincial tax base. This is a regressive tax that has further been compounded by COVID19 and should not continue to impact any recovery.
