Advocating the use of remote alcohol monitoring devices as an effective yet low-cost tool to help Child Protection Services caseworkers make decisions about whether children at risk due to parental alcohol misuse can safely remain in (or be returned to) their homes. The lobbyist's letter to the Minister of Children and Family Development, dated June 4, 2021, resulted in a referral to BC's Procurement Concierge Program, a matchmaking service between vendors with innovative ideas and potential public service buyers. Specifically, it is anticipated that Smart Start will be contacted by the Procurement Concierge Program to participate in a pilot project designed to develop a fair and transparent method to accept and manage user-designated ideas.
