Regulatory parity for geothermal. Our follow-up letter sent out on August 11 to the Finance Committee and the Energy, Mines, Low Carbon Innovation Ministry specifically addressed that geothermal should be included as a prescribed undertaking in the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Regulation (GGRR) to receive exclusive rate recovery incentives.
Development or enactment of any regulation, including the enactment of a regulation for the purposes of amending or repealing a regulation
Energy
Seeking regulatory parity for the geothermal industry broadly. More specifically, one way this can be achieved is by making additional amendments to the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Regulation (GGRR) to include geothermal as a prescribed undertaking.
Development or enactment of any regulation, including the enactment of a regulation for the purposes of amending or repealing a regulation
Energy, Environment
Seeking targeted fiscal support for geothermal development in the Clean BC programs to encourage investment in this critical emerging industry. This funding can be used to switch fossil fuel and electric heating to low-carbon, highly efficient, geothermal industrial heating.
Development, establishment, amendment or termination of any program, policy, directive or guideline of the government of British Columbia or a Provincial entity, Awarding, amendment or termination of any contract, grant or financial benefit by or on behalf of the government of British Columbia or a Provincial entity
Energy, Environment
This was an open consultation submission regarding the BC New Industry Net Zero Policy submitted to: GHGregulator@gov.ab.ca In our comments on the plans to incentivize compliance to Net-Zero, CanGEA commended the option of offset projects. However, In order to accommodate the needs of the geothermal industry and our participation in offset projects and contribution to emission reductions, it is imperative that BC draft targeted fiscal support for geothermal development in the Clean BC programs and accommodate off-site geothermal offset projects. Furthermore, the government should play its role in giving equal visibility to geothermal as it does to other technologies and energy industries.
