Advocating for adequate consultation and inclusion for teachers, students and staff who identify as Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour (BIPOC), as it relates to the public school system and institutionalized racism at a societal level. Consult with BCTF to implement a plan of action to address racism experienced by staff, students and families in BC schools. Work with educational partners in the public school system to increase the number of First Nations, Metis, and Inuit teachers working in BC schools. Address issues of gender-based violence and Indigenous women who are highest risk.
  • Development of any legislative proposal by the government of British Columbia, a Provincial entity or a member of the Legislative Assembly
  • Introduction, amendment, passage or defeat of any Bill or resolution in or before the Legislative Assembly
  • Development or enactment of any regulation, including the enactment of a regulation for the purposes of amending or repealing a regulation

Implementing the call of action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) of Canada including the teaching of Aboriginal language, history, culture and ways of knowing in public schools. Adopt a funded plan that ensures school district employees and teachers are provided resources to support relevant worldviews and knowledges of local First Nations Communities. Remove Sections from the School Regulations, which pertains to promoting "loyalty to the crown". Include National Indigenous Peoples Day in section 10 (b). Government's response and call to action regarding the Kamloops tragedy and the 215 children who died and were found at the Kamloops Residential School.

Request to work in collaboration with the government on meaningfully implementing the United Declaration of Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) and implement the BC's Bill 41: Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA) by enacting funding; adoption of BCTF recommendations; providing school districts with adequate teaching resources; implementing a plan of action so that Indigenous languages are taught in schools; working with the BC Teachers' Council (BCTC) and other bodies to increase the number of First Nations, Metis and Inuit teachers working in BC schools; address incidents of racism experienced by Indigenous staff, students, and families in BC schools; and abandon all colonial narratives in education.
