Island Rail Corporation (IRC) is engaging with the Government of British Columbia and the Official Opposition regarding the revitalization, acquisition, and long-term operation of the Vancouver Island rail corridor and associated rail infrastructure, including private sector ownership and participation in service delivery. Discussions include integrated freight and passenger rail services, rail-marine logistics interfaces, and intermodal transportation systems, including connections with the Port of Nanaimo and the Port of Port Alberni.
IRC’s activities also involve coordination with government regarding access to, use of, and potential transfer of rail infrastructure and related assets, as well as alignment with provincial transportation, economic development, and regional connectivity priorities across Vancouver Island and the province.
