This was an open consultation submission regarding the BC New Industry Net Zero Policy submitted to: GHGregulator@gov.ab.ca In our comments on the plans to incentivize compliance to Net-Zero, CanGEA commended the option of offset projects. However, In order to accommodate the needs of the geothermal industry and our participation in offset projects and contribution to emission reductions, it is imperative that BC draft targeted fiscal support for geothermal development in the Clean BC programs and accommodate off-site geothermal offset projects. Furthermore, the government should play its role in giving equal visibility to geothermal as it does to other technologies and energy industries. The Canadian Geothermal Energy Association (CanGEA) is the collective voice of Canada’s geothermal energy industry. As a non-profit industry association, we represent the interests of our members with the primary goal of unleashing Canada’s tremendous geothermal energy potential. Geothermal energy can provide competitively priced, renewable, around-the-clock energy to the Canadian market and is part of the solution to growing concerns about securing sustainable, cost-effective energy sources and lowering GHG emissions. CanGEA engages with all levels of government, including federal departments and committees, provincial and territorial governments, utility commissions, municipal governments, and Indigenous Peoples. CanGEA works to advance policies and regulations that enable Canada’s transition towards geothermal energy for electricity and heat.
