To exchange information, ideas and options related to BC's cement industry relating to BC's climate change and air emissions policies, laws & regulations including the Gas Reduction Targets Act, the Clean Growth Climate Action Plan, and the Clean Growth Incentive Program and Industrial Incentive Funds. To advocate for the acceptance of alternative and renewable fuels for use in cement manufacturing and the cement low carbon fuel program; and for advocating for the industry's solid waste & waste recovery solutions. To discuss and analysis of the competitiveness and other impacts of the Carbon Tax and seek amendments and alternatives to mitigate the impacts on the cement industry including financial incentives. To advance industry solutions to the built environment which benefit the environment and sustainability. To send correspondence and meet with Cabinet and elected officials to educate them on industry issues. To modify the Wood First Act to conform with procurement and carbon accounting practices which are open, fair and inclusive to competition, to respect the technical, sustainable and economic advantages of concrete, to recognize the local, non-export nature of concrete production and delivery and to recognize and employ appropriate environmental life cycle assessment tools in infrastructure decisions. Discussions on the industry’s intention to transition to the use of Portland-Limestone Cement from General Use cement, to increase the use of alternative bids for highway construction and the use of lifecycle assessment and lifecycle cost assessment methodologies to decrease costs and GHGs from highway road construction by using more concrete alternatives. The Cement Association of Canada (CAC) is the voice of Canada's cement industry. Through collective action by its members, CAC promotes the sustainable growth of the cement industry. The Association achieves this objective by representing members' interests and by working with stakeholders to: advocate for regulations that will enhance the competitiveness of the domestic cement industry; create market opportunities for Canadian cement and concrete products; and raise awareness and understanding of the economic, social, and environmental contributions of the industry and its products.
